Dear Evergreen Family,
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2).
The times sure are changing! Did you receive that alert on Monday letting us know that everyone 16 and over is now eligible for the vaccine? Just like that, our world has changed again. It’s hard to keep up.
All of this is probably a signal that it’s time for Evergreen to change again, too. We’ve spent more than a year doing ministry in mostly remote, virtual ways. All of this has been necessary, and it’s been great that we’ve had the capacity to do this. Maybe things are ready to shift a little. Of course, we’ll always comply with all the regulations to keep everyone as safe as possible. At the same time, maybe it’s time to start doing some things we’re already permitted to do. It’s time to start being with one another in person. There’s no substitute for this. God is a relational God, and we are made in the image of God. When we’re not present with one another, we’re deprived of essential social and spiritual nutrients. Currently, our 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. Sunday worship services are each averaging 15–20 persons present each week. This means 70–80 percent of us are still disconnected. We’ve got plenty of room!
So, the question of the day is this: What would need to happen for you and/or your family to feel comfortable returning to church in person on Sundays? Would you please hit “reply” and send us your response? All feedback will be kept in confidence. The more we hear, the more we’ll know. The more we know, the more we can do. We love you. We value you. We miss you. We can’t wait to see you.
May God bless us all.
Your Fellow Minister in Christ,
Mark
